In December, PREMIER Bankcard Collections and Credit departments joined together to gather care packages for a regional troop. PREMIER employees collected instant coffee, personal hygiene items, prepaid phone cards, stationery, magazines, DVDs, canned food, jerky, and more. Then items were placed into individual boxes for a soldier to receive.
This concept stemmed from Operation Shoebox—a nonprofit organization that collects and distributes care packages to deployed soldiers. It was established as a way to boost morale and meet needs beyond the basic shelter and food the U.S. Military provides, as many soldiers don’t receive care packages.
The PREMIER Collections and Credit teams packaged dozens of boxes at multiple locations:
- Dakota Dunes: 36 boxes
- Sioux Falls: 39 boxes
- Watertown: 38 boxes
- Huron: 15 boxes
This employee-led effort provided a troop in PREMIER’s home state of South Dakota with a few welcome comforts while overseas. The South Dakota National Guard 155th Engineer Company, based in Rapid City and Wagner, S.D., received its packages after 4 months of a year-long deployment to Kuwait.
PREMIER employees plan to continue this endeavor in the future to support deployed soldiers.
