Giving Spotlight: Junior Achievement of South Dakota

June 13, 2017

First PREMIER Bank and PREMIER Bankcard are proud to partner with Junior Achievement of South Dakota through financial support and employee volunteers. We have team member presence on local community boards and the state board. PREMIER also has a 8-member Corporate Council that supports the Junior Achievement office by recruiting PREMIER volunteers.

What specific Junior Achievement events are supported?

Classroom Volunteers, Golfing Fundraising Events, and Bowl-A-Thon

PREMIER provides volunteer support to Junior Achievement with 83 volunteers that were in 89 classrooms in the 2016/2017 school year. PREMIER also supports the Junior Achievement 100 Hole Golf Challenge, and sponsored four golfers for the 2017 event. In addition, PREMIER had 22 Bowl-A-Thon teams in 2016 for a total of 110 bowlers. PREMIER Sioux Empire teams raised $8,115!

What do employees say about volunteering?

“I have been a classroom volunteer for 12 years and have been involved in the Bowl-A-Thon and am a member of the PREMIER Corporate Council. I got involved when I was asked to co-teach with a co-worker and then was asked to teach my own class. I enjoy seeing how excited the kids are when I walk into the classroom and they know it is time for Junior Achievement.”  – Kara

“This year I participated in 6th grade JA In-A-Day and it was an awesome experience. I was surprised how many students knew about high level topics such as insurance and credit history.  I love knowing I impact the student’s financial future. Many of these lessons would not be taught in everyday class. The students have so much fun with the lessons.”  – Caitlin

How many volunteer hours are given?

PREMIER team members have volunteered a total of 1,028 hours in 2016 for Junior Achievement as classroom volunteers, bowlers, golfers, board members, and committee members.
