The PREMIER Culture: Kicking Hunger to the Curb

December 30, 2015

PREMIER Bankcard and First PREMIER Bank have always endeavored to make an impact on the communities our employees call home. Even though we serve customers nationwide, our local communities center around four South Dakota cities: Sioux Falls, Watertown, Huron, and Dakota Dunes.

For the past three years, our employees have contributed to a large-scale food drive to help Feeding South Dakota (an affiliate of Feeding America) and other local area food banks. Through this organization, approximately 21,000 South Dakota individuals and families receive packaged foods and goods every week, and over 5,000 kids are fed every weekend. They provide a basic need for children and adults who might otherwise go hungry.

So, how much food did our employees collect this year?FeedingSD_S2

Here’s the breakdown by city:

  • Watertown collected 400 pounds.
  • Huron collected 308 pounds.
  • Dakota Dunes collected 160 pounds.
  • Sioux Falls collected 1,550 pounds.

This is a grand total of 2,418 pounds—or 1.209 tons—of food!

At Feeding South Dakota, every 1.2 pounds of food equals one meal. As a result, PREMIER provided over 2,015 meals to those who need it the most, thanks to our customer service center and bank branch employees in South Dakota.

“With more people utilizing our Food Pantry, the need for additional food is great,” said Matt Gassen, Executive Director for Feeding South Dakota. “Food drives help make sure we can keep our shelves full throughout the year. We are so grateful for the partnership with First PREMIER Bank and PREMIER Bankcard.”

FeedingSD_WOver the span of three years, PREMIER employees have donated over 9,000 pounds of food, which equals nearly 8,000 meals for hungry individuals and families.

We couldn’t be more proud of our team members and their efforts to make the community a better place.
